Recommended Data Formats

The following data formats* should be applied to the values used in the APIs.

*Data types should include attributes to define the language, currency, measurement unit

  • Date/Time formats according to ISO 8601 standards
    • Example: “2019-01-31T10:00:00.000Z”
  • Currency 3-digit codes based upon ISO 4217 standards
    • Example: “EUR”
  • Language 2-digit codes based upon ISO 639-1 standards
    • Example: “EN”
  • State/Province 2-digit codes based upon ISO 3166-1 standards
    • Example: “NJ”
  • Port Codes according to UN/LOCODE
    • Example: “CNSHA”
  • Terminal codes should use SMDG codes
    • Example: “SGICT”
  • Classification of products according to the Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding Systems (HS)
    • Example: “847130”
  • Hazardous and Dangerous Goods according to UN Codes
    • Example: “3190”
  • Measurement Units:
    • Weight – lb (pound) or kg (kilogram)
    • Height/Length/Distance – [in (inch) / ft (foot) / mi (mile)] or [cm (centimeter) / m (meter) / km (kilometer)]
    • Volume – cft (cubic foot) or cbm (cubic meter)
    • Temperature – F (Fahrenheit) or C (Celsius)
